Cornell Book Awards 2017

Each year, the Cornell Club of Greater Miami and the Florida Keys has awarded books to South Florida area high school students of high academic achievement who have demonstrated leadership and academic excellence.

Schools are invited to participate by nominating a member of the current junior class who has demonstrated the attributes of the award. The faculty of each school determines the recipient for their school. Several different criteria are used to select which high schools are invited. The book award is a way to encourage greater interest in Cornell by prospective students and to increase our visibility.

This year, the following high schools are participating:

Felix Varela High, Miami Sunset High, Miami Palmetto High, Alonzo and Tracy Mourning High, Coral Gables Senior High, Miami Country Day School, South Miami Senior High, Ransom Everglades School, Dr. Michael Krop Senior High, MAST Academy, Samuel Scheck Hillel Community Day School, Miami Killian Senior High, Carrolton School of the Sacred Heart, Belen Jesuit Preparatory School, Christopher Columbus High School, Our Lady of Lourdes Academy, Palmer Trinity School, Design & Architecture Senior High (DASH), Mater Academy,  Gulliver Preparatory, Grandview Preparatory, TERRA, St. Brendan High School, Westland Senior High School, Miami Beach Senior High, RASG Hebrew Academy, iPrep, Westminster Christian, and Coral Reef Senior High.

The book awarded to each student is The Elements of Style by William Strunk, Jr., and E. B. White

CAAAN members and other Alumni are encouraged to present the awards at the schools’ Spring award celebrations in May and June and in the Fall in August and September.  If you wish to participate in presenting the awards, please contact Juan Alayo at jalayo@alayo.com
